The Challenge

Hitachi’s depot required a designated safe walking route for drivers and staff to mitigate operational safety risks within the facility. The solution needed to provide robust, durable pedestrian infrastructure whilst supporting sustainability objectives and minimising environmental impact. The installation required careful coordination within an operational depot environment, with works completed within a tight six-week programme to avoid disruption to critical maintenance and servicing operations.

What We Did

Aaron Rail was procured by Hitachi to deliver the complete installation of driver’s walkway and handrail infrastructure. Our scope included:

  • GRP Walkway Including Foundations – design and installation of Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) walkway structures with associated foundation works
  • GRP Handrail – installation of GRP handrail systems providing safe edge protection along the walkway route

The project utilised environmentally friendly GRP material throughout, selected for its durability, low maintenance requirements, and reduced environmental impact compared to traditional materials. All works were delivered between February and April 2024, completed within the six-week programme to minimise impact on depot operations.
