Project: TransPennine Route Upgrade – TRU West & Hope Valley
Location: Manchester to Leeds, Hope Valley (various locations)
Duration:
Programme Value:
The TransPennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a multi-billion-pound, long-term rail infrastructure programme delivered across live railway, urban, and rural environments between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York, including works within the Hope Valley route. The scale, duration and complexity of the programme presented ongoing risks including unauthorised access, trespass, vandalism, theft, and safety risks to the workforce, rail operations, and the public.
A coordinated and flexible security solution was required to protect assets, deter interference with works, and support the safe delivery of the programme across multiple locations.
Aaron Guard was appointed by Amey Rail and Story to provide security services across TRU West and the Hope Valley route.
We supplied and managed static guards at key locations between Manchester and Leeds to control access and protect critical infrastructure. In addition, specialist roaming guards were deployed to act as a visible deterrent during higher-risk activities, including cable installation and possession works.
Our teams worked closely with the Principal Contractor and BTO, contributing to the overarching Site Security Strategy and supporting the identification of emerging security trends. This collaborative approach ensured security arrangements remained proportionate, responsive, and aligned with the evolving requirements of the programme.
Aaron Guard continues to provide consistent and effective security support across TRU West and the Hope Valley route. The service has reduced unauthorised access and interference with works, improved asset protection, and provided ongoing assurance to delivery partners. By working collaboratively with all stakeholders, Aaron Guard has supported the safe and efficient delivery of works while maintaining a value-for-money security solution across this major rail programme.
