Commercial Lead / Quantity Surveyor (NEC)

Role Summary

Responsible for the commercial management of projects delivered by Aaron HV Systems (typically under NEC contracts). The role is focused on proactive contract administration and change management, including Early Warnings, Compensation Events, programme impacts, and commercial reporting. You will support tender contract reviews and negotiations, and act as the key commercial and financial interface with clients and subcontractors. HV/utility background is desirable but not essential.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Cable Installation & Pulling Operations

  • Lead NEC contract administration, ensuring compliance with notice requirements and timescales.
  • Drive the Early Warning process: identify, record, coordinate mitigation, and track actions.
  • Manage Compensation Events end-to-end: entitlement assessment, notices/quotations, substantiation, programme/time impact input, negotiation and agreement.
  • Maintain robust commercial records (instructions, communications, CE/EW logs, evidence packs).
  • Provide commercial input during tenders: contract reviews (incl. Z clauses), risk/assumption identification, clarifications/qualifications, negotiation support.
  • Manage subcontract packages: procurement support, flow-down of obligations, valuations, change control, and account closure.
  • Produce core commercial reporting: CVR/forecasting, applications/valuations, cashflow awareness, risk/opportunity management.
  • Liaise directly with clients and subcontractors, chair/attend commercial meetings, and support dispute avoidance through early engagement and accurate records.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of NEC (Early Warnings, Compensation Events, programme obligations, change control).
  • Confident negotiating and communicating contractual position with clients and subcontractors.
  • Strong commercial acumen: cost control, forecasting, reporting, and margin protection.
  • Highly organised with excellent written communication and attention to detail.
  • Competent with Excel and commercial trackers/logs.

Preferred

  • QS/Commercial qualification (Degree/HNC/HND) and/or RICS/ICES/CIOB (desirable).
  • Experience in HV / utilities / energy infrastructure (desirable, not essential).

Working Pattern

Full-time, based in Henley-in-Arden, WFH allowed 1 day per week. Travel to site and client/supplier meetings are required.
