The Challenge

Network Rail required a comprehensive upgrade of security infrastructure at the Didcot Core Hub to replace ageing CCTV, access control, and intercom systems with a unified, modern security environment. The existing infrastructure consisted of disparate systems that lacked integrated functionality, creating gaps in visibility, access governance, and operational control. The project demanded replacement of outdated technology with a cohesive, platform-based security solution whilst maintaining full operational continuity at a critical rail facility. Works needed to be delivered within a constrained two-week programme and in full compliance with Network Rail Standard 02009, with complete CDM documentation, design submissions, commissioning and handover processes.

What We Did

Aaron Fire & Security was appointed to deliver a comprehensive security infrastructure upgrade at Network Rail Didcot Core Hub between April and May 2025. Our scope included:

CCTV Infrastructure:

  • Installation of new internal CCTV cameras 
  • Installation of new external CCTV cameras 
  • Dedicated security server cabinet with recording capability

Access Control Systems:

  • Upgraded electronic locks across key doors
  • Installation of maglocks on specific door locations
  • Full integration with Genetec Security Center platform

Intercom and Communication:

  • New DDA-compliant video intercom stations at entry points
  • IP-based communication systems integrated with access control

Key Management:

  • Installation of fully networked Traka key management cabinet

Network Infrastructure:

  • New CAT6 network cabling throughout facility
  • Dedicated network infrastructure supporting unified platform

Control Room:

  • Refreshed control room environment
  • Updated workstations and monitor displays
  • Modern recording servers integrated with security platform

All design and installation activities were delivered in full compliance with Network Rail Standard 02009, supported by complete CDM documentation, design submissions, comprehensive commissioning protocols, and formal handover processes.
